The Met Office has issued another weather warning for Birmingham on Thursday. On their website, they’ve declared an extreme heat warning for the city and residents of Birmingham citing the highest temperatures will rise up to 37 or even 38 degree celsius.

Across England temperatures are expected to rise. Accordingly this is the fifth heatwave this summer for people in England. While it has been announced that more than two thirds of England are now in a drought due to the extreme weather this summer.

The Met Office has advised residents of Birmingham to expect experiences of, “adverse health affects” especially by those who are vulnerable or elderly, sunburn, heat exhaustion including dehydration, nausea and fatigue. The Met Office have also warned that, “some changes in working practices and daily routines are likely to be required,” and, “some heat sensitive equipment may fail”, with “potential power cuts” as well as, “some delay to road, rail or air travel” being possible.

While in order to tackle this upcoming heatwave, the Met Office has advised the following:

  • People should drink plenty of fluids.
  • Keep out of the sun and avoid any all and exercise during the times between 11am and 3:00pm when the sun is at its hottest.
  • Close curtains in rooms facing the sun.
  • If travelling, then people should take bottles of water, stay in the shade, ensure you wear sunscreen and wear a wide brimmed hat.
  • Amend travel plans if necessary by looking at the bus or train timetables.
  • Take a small powered fan if available.
  • Wear light fabrics.
  • Help vulnerable people including the elderly.
