Birmingham City Council lands £15m funding to boost business growth and net zero Investment
Recently announced in an article on the Birmingham City Council website, the secured funding will allow the council to deliver £15 million capital grant funding for businesses across West Midlands as part of the next stage for Business Energy Advice Service (BEAS).
This is after the success of the 2025/26 programme where the Birmingham City Council secured £20 million investment into businesses in the West Midlands.
The 2025/26 programme helped support 249 businesses to invest in net zero improvements, reduce operating costs, improve productivity and strengthen resilience over a long term period.
Some of the key achievements made during the 2025/26 programme included:
- Supporting 249 businesses
- Investing £19.27m
- Leveraging £10.04 million of private sector investment.
- Deploying £9.23 million from public sector grant investment
- Achieving £22.1 million of expected annual energy savings.
- Saving energy costs of £4.76 million for expected annual businesses
- Saving annual carbon of 3,026 tonnes.
The 3 year programme of BEAS are now open with expectations from the programme to:
- Invest £5 million from grant funding into 125 SMEs
- Generate approximately £5 million private sector funding.
- Create £10 million of annual business investments.
- Deliver 11.19 million kWh for annual energy savings.
- Generate £2.42 million in energy costs per year.
- Reduce the carbon emissions by 1,547 tonnes annually.
The deputy leader of Birmingham City Council, Cllr Julien Pritchard has stated that, “I am delighted that the Council has secured this funding,” going on to say that this funding, “further demonstrates our ability to attract, secure and deliver major externally funded projects,” which will help “Businesses to grow, invest, create jobs and contribute towards the city’s climate change ambitions.”
Pritchard finished off by saying that it is, “fantastic to see so many businesses already being supported by this funding,” and he, “encourages other businesses to apply,” as this support can, “help businesses to cut costs, improve productivity and invest in their future.”
