The Eagles secured their place in the final with a narrow 205-201 aggregate victory over Cheshire Phoenix in the two-legged semi-final, powered by standout performances from Gus Okafor and Ray’Sean Taylor, who each scored 16 points in the first leg won 100-89.

How did Newcastle Eagles reach the SLB Trophy Final?

In the second leg, Cheshire Phoenix fought back with a 112-105 win led by Patrick Robinson’s 40 points, but Newcastle held firm thanks to control in the first three quarters despite 55 fouls and 79 combined free throws.

As reported by Marc Steutel of Newcastle Eagles,

“It was a really difficult situation to manage. We weren’t at times allowed to establish the defence we wanted too which we’ll reflect upon. But to put 205 points on the board against this team over two games shows our development and improvement.”

What challenges do the Eagles face as underdogs?

Newcastle will defend their title, their first since 2021 when they beat Bristol Flyers, at Utilita Arena Birmingham, where they recently suffered losses to teams including London Lions amid a seven-game losing streak across competitions.

Who are the key players to watch?

Ray’Sean Taylor led with 22 points in the second leg, Maceo Jack added 20, and Cole Long delivered 19 points including 6 of 8 three-pointers in an MVP performance, as noted in official club reporting.

When and where is the SLB Trophy Final?

The men’s final tips off at 3:30 pm on February 1, 2026, at Utilita Arena Birmingham, following a league clash with London Lions this Friday at Vertu Arena, allowing both sides to scout each other beforehand.

The Eagles aim for back-to-back trophies, with tickets available for both upcoming fixtures according to the club’s announcements.
