After a tumultuous but hard earned and nerve wrecking tournament in this World Cup this far where Brits saw England play against Croatia scoring 4 against Croatia’s 2, with another more difficult to see game of 0-0 against Ghana, and another 2-0 against Panama with Jude Bellingham, yet again saving England by scoring a point 62 minutes into the game and Harry Kane solidifying England’s win by scoring only 5 minutes after Bellingham’s goal.
Then another hard match against Mexico in their own city in the Azteca Stadium. This game was airing on Sunday night at 2am UK time but tons of people stayed up late to watch this match, and it did not disappoint. In fact, it certainly was worth it to miss a few hours sleep before going into work later that day. And yet again in this match Jude Bellingham scored 2 goals both in 90 seconds between 36 and 38 seconds of the match, with another by Harry Kane 60 minutes into the match. The star players of England with assists and defending by amazing England squad including Gordon, Rice and Saka, secured England’s entrance into the quarter-finals.
Finally, on Saturday Night, brits were able to witness a night of passion and some of the best football England has thus offered in this World Cup in the quarterfinals match against Norway. In the first half of the match, Norway did manage to score one against England, though towards the end of the first half Star Player Jude Bellingham managed to make it a tie, scoring one for England at 45 minutes thus reigniting hope for England fans everywhere.
The man of the Match Jude Bellingham scored another goal during extra time at 93 minutes and finally made England fans believe that yes, World Cup may finally be coming home this year.
Though there did seem to be some friction the England squad of this World Cup is yet to overcome with comments by Thomas Tuchel, the head coach for England commenting that, ‘We made life very, very difficult for ourselves today. I’m not happy with the performance. In every sense. We were lucky.’
Bellingham, when asked, responded back saying, ‘Yeah, well. Whatever.’
Despite Bellingham’s cavalier response, Tuchel appears to think the Lion’s still have some improvement to make ahead of their match against Argentina this Wednesday for the Semi-finals. This semi-final match will mark the first time that England will meet Argentina on the football pitch after 21 years.
It is for certain that England is set to face adversities against former World Cup Champions of 2022 but back home Brits can only continue to hope that yes, it’s finally coming home.
