Owner of Sonali Supermarket which is located in Lozells Road, Birmingham, Mohammad Shafique Uddin has pleaded guilty to six charges related to the breaching of Food, Safety and Hygiene Regulations Act of 2013.
The Birmingham Supermarket boss admitted to failing to stop a rodent infestation into his business’ premises and the failure to protect all food from contamination.
At the Birmingham Magistrate’s Court hearing on the Thursday of 27th August Uddin, also accepted six similar charges laid against him as the supermarket’s boss.
These charges included:
- To keep food premises clean and maintained in good repair and condition.
- Failure to protect food against contamination when products and packaging were exposed to rodent activity.
- Failure to implement adequate procedures to control pests which resulted in evidence of rat infestation throughout the shop.
- Sonali Supermarket was also accused of failing to maintain the premises in a condition good enough to prevent rat access – this included gaps to external doors, defective structure, missing ceiling tiles, and an open drain.
- The company had failed to implement and maintain a permanent procedure based on the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point principles which can help ensure food safety.
- The final charge was that the company had, “failed to notify the appropriate competent authority of each establishment under your control that carries out any of the stages of production, processing and distribution of food.”
The magistrates adjourned the case for sentencing and will take place on the 24th of September.
