1. Tram passengers to face disruption on September 13
Residents who commute by tram in Birmingham should be aware of planned disruption on Sunday, September 13. The West Midlands Metro will carry out overhead line upgrade work. This will result in trams only running between Wolverhampton and Wednesbury Great Western Street until 1 pm.
There will be no tram service between Wednesbury Great Western Street and Millennium Point or Edgbaston Village during this time. To make it easier for passengers, alternative bus and some train services will accept Metro tickets. However, passengers are being advised to plan their journey before travelling.
2. Delays to be faced by A45 drivers
Drivers who will be using the A45 Coventry Road need to allow extra time for their journeys. The reason behind being that improvement work linked to the Sprint bus priority scheme is continuing along the route. The work includes changes to bus infrastructure and shelters, while lane closures have been taking place around Hob’s Moat Road.
Transport for West Midlands has warned and advised passengers and drivers to plan and check for changes before travelling.
3. New rules affect people working with children
A major change is incoming from September 1, affecting people who regularly work or volunteer with children.
The supervision exemption for regulated activity with children has been removed. This means some people who teach, train, instruct, care for or supervise children may now fall under regulated activity rules even when another person is supervising them.
The change could majorly affect volunteers at schools, sports clubs, youth groups and community organisations.
4. Birmingham’s future development is open for public views
Birmingham residents still have time to have their say on the city’s new Local Plan. The consultation is open until
September 24 and will help shape development across Birmingham up to 2044.
The plan covers areas including housing, regeneration and future development across the city. The residents are asked to submit their views before the deadline.
5. Recycling remains a key change for households
Birmingham households will be continuing to use the city’s new waste and recycling collection system. The service includes weekly food waste collections and fortnightly recycling and general waste collections.
Residents are being encouraged to check their collection arrangements. The main advisery being to make sure they put the correct items in the right bins as the new system continues across the city.
