Yesterday during the Reform UK’s event in Birmingham, the Founder of Raise the Colours Ryan Bridge was in attendance and Nigel Farage has stated at the event that, “If we can help you legally with this fight, we will help you. I promise.”
This promise comes after Birmingham City Council announced on their website, that they would be appealing to the High Court for an injunction which includes the, “interim injunction and power of arrest,” in relation to what the Council calls, “unauthorised attachment of flags to street furniture and highway infrastructure across Birmingham.”
Ryan Bridge said to the Guardian that he was invited to the conference which suggests that Reform UK have made allies of him and subsequently his Raise the Colours movement.
At the event, Bridge stated that he is the, “founder of a grassroots movement Raise the Colours, across the UK where we’ve shown patriotism and unity,” and also commented on the injunctions he received from councils in Birmingham, “I have obviously gotten an injunction against me from Oxfordshire Country to not raise flags anywhere in Oxfordshire and now Birmingham City Council.”
And on the Birmingham City Council he commented, “which is on its knees, government funded, potholes everywhere, can’t collect rubbish, are trying to put a £2.6 million injunction for removals against me.”
He asked Farage himself, “I would like to roll this out with you guys at Reform and we have a legal and lawful way where we can raise flags in Reform Council areas and do it the right way. Would you be happy to read my proposal and move forward?”
To which Farage responded, “I can’t see why it shouldn’t be legal.”
Farage also went on to claim that Birmingham City Council, “actually hate the country” and criticized the, “Anti-flag, anti-british-english identity stuff that has been around for a long time.”
For now Birmingham City Council is set to have their first hearing about their Interim Injunction Application at 10:30am on Tuesday 8th September at High Court – Birmingham Civil and Family Justice Centre, 33 Bull Street, Birmingham, B4 6DS.
