The Bournville Heritage Open Day will be taking place on Saturday 12th of September open from 10am till 4pm. Selly Manor Museum is located at Maple Rd, Bournville, Birmingham, B30 2AE. This open day is completely free for everyone who wishes to visit.
Historic venues will be opening for free as part of the Heritage Open Days and the Birmingham Heritage Week. Visitors will be able to enjoy the tours, exhibitions, activities and overall family fun as they experience the phenomenal design and architecture of this special place.
As advertised on their website the 19 sites open this year include:
- Selly Manor Museum – A tudor manor and medieval hall that was rebuilt by the Cadbury family.
- The Rest House – This displays an exhibition that celebrates women’s history in Bournville.
- The Carillon – This is an instrument that plays throughout the day but there will be no tours in the Carillon Tower this year.
- Bournville Almshouses – This includes a guided heritage tour of a unique building built by Richard Cadbury.
- St Francis Church – A Church declared holy in 1925 which just recently celebrated it’s 100 year anniversary.
- Vintage Vehicles – The sight of historic cars at Bournville Village.
- St Lazar’s Church – A Serbian Orthodox Church with a beautiful interior.
- Bournville Village Primary School – See the George Hall and learn about Frescoes, a mural painting technique.
- Bournville Model Boat Club – Go sailing in these boats.
- The War Memorial Room – Placed in the Pavilion to remember Cadbury employees.
- The Cadbury Concert Hall – A music venue right in the centre of the factory.
- The Cadbury Archives – Tours of this refurbished treasure of archives.
- Bournville Crown Green Bowls Club – See the crown green bowls at this iconic club.
- Dame Elizabeth Hall – First opened in 1930, visitors can discover the story of the Bournville village festival.
- Manor Farm Park – A 2km heritage trail that visitors can do themselves. This connects 10 sites at the park with tours at 11:00am and 2:00pm.
- The Old Bank – One of the oldest buildings in Bournville which was a bank and estate office.
- Cadbury World – Free entry tickets to Cadbury World will only be available to a limited number of people who book the historical talk on the history of Bournville and Cadbury Family.
- Ruskin Hall – The parts of the oldest community in Bournville.
- Fircroft College – The grounds of George Cadbury Jr’s former home.
The Almshouses, Cadbury Archives and Cadbury World Tickets are only available through pre-booked tours. Free tickets will be available via Eventbrite from 5:30pm on 25th August.
